Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? ~1 Corinthians 10:16
What are you thankful for?
How has God blessed you?
Typical answers to these questions seem to be:
I’m thankful that God woke me up today and that I can live another day.
Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. ~ Psalm 100:3
I’m thankful for my family and friends.
And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty. ~ 2 Corinthians 6:18
I’m thankful for my health.
Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and let them enjoy abundant peace and security. ~ Jeremiah 33: 6
I’m thankful to know God and his great love for us.
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. ~ Psalm 103:8
I’m thankful God has fulfilled my needs and more.
Praise the Lord. I will extol the Lord with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever. He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and compassionate. He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever. He has shown his people the power of his works, giving them the lands of other nations. The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy. They are established for ever and ever, enacted in faithfulness and uprightness. He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever—holy and awesome is his name. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. ~ Psalm 111
This might be the typical list but this list isn’t exhaustive. Our list could go on forever for all the things that we could be thankful for. We should be thankful for those beautiful starry nights. The innocent laugh of a child. The way the wind blows through our hair and gently touches our skin. Every simple thing counts!
God made it. He made it ALL!
We need to thank God every day for every wonder He put into our lives. Not only do we need to be aware of what we are thankful for but we need to live out our thankfulness.
The biggest thing we should be thankful for is our salvation; for Jesus as He died for our sins. We need to remember what God did for us and drink the cup of thanksgiving, the blood of Christ, the cup of remembrance.
Participate in communion and remember all this. Drink from the cup of thanksgiving!
And like I said we need to show our thankfulness. Our love for God needs to show in our lives. We need to show our thankfulness by going where God wants us to go, by following him without asking any questions. We need to let Jesus’ love shine through us for all the world to see!
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. ~ 1 Corinthians 10:31
